PUB NEWS MARCH 13, 20011

Dawna wanted me to thank everyone for their support over the past few weeks.

Happy Birthday wishes to Marjorie Smith on Tues. 15th and Diane Rowell on Wed. 16thWork has started on the new draft beer cooler in the cellar. The new cooler will allow us to offer 8 new craft beer draft lines. We have also started planning our next "Beer School" class for the end of March.
Atta’Boy" Our thanks to Melissa and Harry for staying late on Monday night to serve the group from River Dance after their Bangor show. From all reports they had a great time and we all made a little more money.

St Patrick’s Day is right around the corner (4 days)
Just a reminder, we will be crazy busy but we have plenty of help. Customers will be carded at the door and be given a green wrist band if they are over 21. This does not let you off if you serve a minor with a wrist band. It is still up to you to card your customers. Expect to stay late. Expect to help clean up at the end of the night. We will not be accepting credit card sales at the bar only. Entertainers do not drink for free.
                                     BEERVANA NEWS

Last week’s feature beer was Flying Dog Brewery’s Raging Bitch . With 42 Beervanaites trying this tasty brew we had 73 of these brews sold by Saturday night. Flying Dog Brewery’s Raging Bitch posted marks of 3.2 for like and 3 for drinkability. Here are a few of my favorite comments.

"Just the way a "Raging Bitch" should be....strong, sharp, and a little bitter!!"–Pick
"Good Beer...........Biatach!!"–Ladderman
"Really complex fruity flavor, orange tangerine at first. Finishes sweet and bitter. Awesome beer!" –Blunts
"Pairs well with Melissa rich, hot and sassy!"–Sylvester

This weeks Beervana feature beer- Poterhouse Brewing Company’s Wrasslers XXXXStout - Ireland has traditionally had a long history of brewing. At the beginning of the nineteenth century there were over two hundred breweries in the country, producing a wide range of Irish beer. However, this number dropped significantly by the twentieth century due to the dominance of a few large and famous breweries. Today, there are only about 12 breweries in the country, with most producing mass-produced beer, backed by formidable marketing budgets. It was in this environment that in 1989 cousins Liam La Hart and Oliver Hughes bought a run-down building in Bray, County Wicklow, which became the Poterhouse Brewery. Wrasslers XXXX Stout is made using a recipe originally brewed by Deasy’s of West Cork in the early 1900's. This was Michael Collins’ favorite beer. In 1996, the Poterhouse brewpub was opened in the Temple Bar area of Dublin city center. In 2009 the brewery launched a range of 33cl bottle-conditioned versions of its beers. Poterhouse Brewing Company now has a chain of public houses (pubs) in Ireland and London, England.

BEER FACT: Ale has been brewed in Ireland for over 5,000 years and St. Patrick is thought to have employed his own brewer.

BEER QUOTE Nobody in their right mind would try to make beer from rice. Now would they? -Liam La Hart, founder Poterhouse Brewing Co.:"

REVIEW: The web site Beeradvocate gave Poterhouse Wrasslers XXXX Stout an "A-" rating ABV 5. 0%. This is beer with real attitude; big, powerful stout with masses of rich dark-roasted malt, coffee, dry hops and a flavor that goes on and on. A beer in a proud Irish tradition. It’s raw Irish barley that adds that extra dimension to this beer. Perfect with Fish and Chips or one of Geaghan’s Cheeseburger Clubs.: .
